Volunteer Opportunities

Volunteers are vital to our organization. Their commitment and generosity enable us to help families prosper through our adult literacy and family literacy programs.

We offer a number of meaningful opportunities to volunteer in the Edmonton area. Volunteer roles include tutoring adults, facilitating group classes, assisting in family literacy programs, office work, fundraising, special events, and leadership opportunities. We provide training for all of our volunteers.

To learn more about current volunteering opportunities, phone the Centre at 780-421-7323 to speak with the Volunteer Coordinator or email:

Adult Tutors

Volunteer tutors work one-on-one with adults who want to improve their reading, writing, math, or other essential life skills.

Our tutors:

  • Attend 9 hours of free tutor training
  • Set goals with their learner and prepare lessons to meet their individual needs and interests
  • Meet with the learner 1-2 hours per week to help them meet their goals
  • Provide encouragement and support to help increase both skills and confidence

Are you:

  • Proficient in speaking, reading, and writing English?
  • Friendly, non-judgmental, patient and reliable?
  • Eager to help someone improve his or her reading, writing and confidence?
  • Able to volunteer 2-3 hours a week for at least one year if needed?

If you answered yes, then you might enjoy becoming a volunteer tutor with the Centre!

We are offering the following information session for prospective new volunteer tutors. Join us to learn about our Tutor Program, and you’re welcome to stay afterwards to complete your application if you’re interested. Tell your friends and neighbours!

Please RSVP to our Volunteer Coordinator at 780-421-7323 to attend:

Wednesday, May 22  6:30 - 8:30 pm

(One hour presentation, with optional second hour to take a tour and open your volunteer file.)
